Bio

With over 300 games under his belt, Jordan Obita provides great flexibility and versatility to Hibernian FC’s squad.

Born in Oxford, England, on 8 December 1993, Obita had a trial at his hometown club before joining Reading’s Academy at the age of 7.

Initially starting out in the middle of midfield, his natural pace saw him move out to the flank, and nine years later he made his First Team debut in the English League Cup against Torquay under the management of Brian McDermott.

His first taste of regular senior football came during short loan spells away from the Club. He went to Barnet, Gillingham Portsmouth and Oldham. It was with the Gills where he scored his first professional goal, and during his loan spell at Portsmouth, he bagged against English Premier League side Everton in the FA Cup on TV.

The 2013/14 season was his break-through year at Reading under Nigel Adkins, which also saw his transition into a left-back following an injury to Wayne Bridge. In his first game at full-back, he helped the team keep a clean sheet and set up the winning goal. From that point on, he became a mainstay in the starting XI, and was actually named the Club’s Player of the Season by the fans.

He became a permanent fixture in the Reading line-up for the following three seasons and almost guided the Club to the English Premier League, however they were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town in the Play-Off Final.

After departing the Royals, he joined his hometown side Oxford United in the third-tier of English football, before going back to the English Championship a year later with Wycombe Wanderers.

Over the last two seasons, he has been a regular for the Chairboys making 95 appearances in total. He was offered a new deal by the Club in the summer of 2023, but chose to make the switch to Hibernian FC, penning a two-year deal. Hibs have an option to extend that by another season.

On the international front, Obita has represented England at U18, U19, U20 and Under-21 level. He featured in the 2014 Toulon Tournament and scored in that competition against Qatar.
