Bio
Born in Tamworth, England, Joe Newell’s football career started at his beloved Birmingham City before he made the switch to Peterborough United’s Academy. It was with the Posh where he made his first senior appearance coming on as a sub in 2011 in the third-tier of English football.
He broke into the First Team and became as regular at Peterborough over the coming seasons going on to make over 100 appearances before making the switch to Rotherham United in the English Championship.
A left-winger down south, Newell made 150 appearances in all competitions for the South Yorkshire side and scored 15 goals. He was part of promotions with Peterborough and Rotherham and also lifted the Football League Trophy with the Posh.
By his own admission, Joe Newell took time to find his feet at Hibernian but the midfielder is certainly making up for lost time.
Now an established First Team player, Joe possesses the kind of class that Hibs fans love - able to glide forward with the ball at his feet and blessed with menacing deliveries from set-pieces.
Joe's laid-back demeanour disguises a fierce competitor, whose influence on, and support of, some of the younger players at HTC hasn't gone unnoticed.
He's led out the Hibees on numerous occasions as captain, has made over 150 appearances for the Club, and was named the Club's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year in 2022/23.
An easy-on-the-eye all-round midfielder. Super Joe Newell.
