The wee Hibees continued their impressive run of results with a fifth straight win!

Darren McGregor’s side won comfortably at HTC, beating Celtic 2-0 on Friday (14 February) evening.

Dean Cleland bagged a brace with a goal in either half as the Hibees extended their lead at the top of the table.

The wee Hibees opened the scoring after 13 minutes, with an excellent team goal. It started from the back with goalkeeper Ryan Mallon picking out Rory Whittaker on the right flank. Rory combined well with Jamie McMurdo who released Cleland one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The Hibs striker showed great composure slotting the ball under the Celtic goalkeeper to round off an excellent move.

Cleland had an excellent opportunity to double our lead five minutes later when he was played in one-on-one again. This time, however, the Celtic goalkeeper won the individual battle – getting down smartly to save Dean’s low-driven shot.

Our next real opportunity came on the hour mark, when Zach Bruce wriggled his way into the penalty area only to see his shot sail agonisingly wide of the far corner.

With 20 minutes left, the wee Hibees got their crucial second goal courtesy of Dean Cleland once again. Rory Whittaker was at the heart of the action – providing an inch-perfect cross from the right-hand side leaving Cleland the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.

Hibs goalkeeper Ryan Mallon was rarely tested throughout the 90 minutes – keeping a fourth clean sheet in our last five matches.
