David Gray’s side created more history on Sunday afternoon after a thoroughly convincing 4-0 victory over Dundee.
The result extended our unbeaten run to a remarkable 17 league games, which matched our post-war record for longest unbeaten streak in the Scottish top-flight, which was set in 1948. That side included members of the Famous Five – who went on to lift the league title.
That run of form was started off by Willie McCartney who was in charge of the Hibees until he tragically passed away in January 1948. Hugh Shaw took over from McCartney and helped steer the Hibees to their first league triumph since the 1902/03 season.
Our current run started on Saturday 14 December, with a 3-1 win at home to Ross County. Since then, the Hibees have gone 17 matches unbeaten (12 wins and 5 draws) – including memorable wins over Celtic and Rangers, whilst also winning back-to-back Edinburgh Derbies and beating Aberdeen home and away.
The Hibees will be hoping to go one better than that iconic team in 1948 when they visit Pittodrie on Saturday 26 April in our first game of the post-split fixtures.
Recap on our current memorable run of form below.
To date, the Club’s longest ever unbeaten league run dates back to wartime in 1942, when Hibs went 19 games unbeaten in the top-flight. Under the stewardship of McCartney, the run started off with a 2-0 win over Falkirk in January and continued right through to mid-November.
To this day, that remains the Club’s longest ever unbeaten run of matches in all competitions (24).
