Hibs produced another huge performance to claim our first win at Ibrox since 2018 thanks to goals from Dylan Levitt and Martin Boyle.

Victory in the penultimate fixture before the split extended our long unbeaten run in the William Hill Premiership to 16 matches and consigned the hosts to five consecutive defeats for the first time in their history,

Rangers put us under a lot of pressure during the first half with Cyriel Dessers missing a glut of gilt-edged opportunities however it was the Hibees that took a lead into the break thanks to Levitt’s stunning half-volley.

The expected onslaught from the hosts failed to materialise after the break although substitute Nadim Bajrami did strike the crossbar.

Instead, the best of the chances fell our way with Boyle doubling our lead following a clinical counterattack.

The players put their bodies on the line throughout the 90 minutes and defended resolutely to limit Rangers to very little.

March manager of the month, David Gray, kept faith with the same starting XI that clinched our top six place last weekend with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St Johnstone.

Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Sterling, Souttar, Jefté, Barron, Raskin, Cerny (Bajrami 59'), Diomande (Danilo 75'), Igamane (Hagi 88'), Dessers (Curtis 88')

Subs: Pröpper, Cortés, Bajrami, Balogun, Hagi, Kelly, McCausland, Curtis, Danilo

Hibernian: Smith, Miller, Bushiri, Iredale, Chris Cadden (O'Hora 94'), Levitt (Moriah-Welsh 85'), Triantis, Obita, Hoilett (Bowie 62'), Boyle (Gayle 85'), Kuharevich (Campbell 62')

Subs: Bursik, Ekpiteta, O'Hora, Manneh, Nicky Cadden, Bowie, Moriah-Welsh, Campbell, Gayle

As you would expect at Ibrox, the home side made a quick start and had early opportunities through Nico Raskin and Vaclav Cerny that failed to test Jordan Smith in our goal.

Despite Rangers bright start, we would silence Ibrox in the eighth minute when Levitt opened the scoring.

A long throw from Jack Iredale was headed away by John Souttar, but only as far as Levitt who struck a powerful low drive through a ruck of bodies and under Jack Butland, who should’ve saved.

Rangers attempted to respond quickly to the setback and went close with a curling effort from Hamza Igamane that was just wide of Smith’s far post.

Barry Ferguson’s men would enjoy a lot of possession throughout the first half and put us under constant pressure, only to struggle to break down a resolute Hibs defence.

Dessers had come in for a fair bit of criticism from Rangers supporters lately for not taking as many chances as he perhaps should’ve and he would again pass up several gilt-edged opportunities today.

His first came on 27 minutes when he was played in on the angle by a fantastic James Tavernier pass that cut us open; he tried to find the far corner of our net only to be denied by an impressive save from Smith.

Sixty seconds later Dessers latched into a threaded pass from Igamane and raced through on goal but with only Smith to beat he shot high over our crossbar.

Shortly before the interval the forward had another big chance when Cerny countered down the right before switching the ball to Dessers, who tried an early finish that was wildly off target from 18 yards.

Rangers had penned us back for long spells of the first half and again went close with a dipping Tavernier free kick that flashed just over our crossbar.

The interval gave David Gray an opportunity to give his side new instruction and after the break we appeared the more likely to score next.

Junior Hoilett gave a statement of our intent with a rising shot that flashed just over Butland’s crossbar in the opening moments.

The expected onslaught from the hosts failed to materialise and we had a great opportunity to extend our advantage when Josh Campbell dragged a shot wide from 16 yards.

Rangers found a little joy with a route one approach when a ball over the top released Bajrami through on goal; his rising effort beat Smith only to crash back off the crossbar and away.

It was a rare opportunity for Rangers as they struggled against our shape and we could’ve doubled our lead moments later when Boyle disposed Dujon Sterling and Campbell raced clear; the substitute looked to take his shot early and dragged his effort wide of the far post with options inside of him.

A second Hibs goal was only delayed momentarily.  Jordan Obita’s long ball released Boyle through on goal and the Australian international kept his composure to slip the ball through the legs of Butland to score his 16th of the campaign.

The goal was initially chalked off for offside however a VAR review showed Boyle was onside and the goal was eventually given.

Boyle’s pace was tearing Rangers apart and on 73 minutes he again raced clear however, this time, his shot on the angle was beaten away at his near post by Butland.

Rangers needed a goal back soon if they were to have any hopes of a comeback but they found a Hibs defence in an unforgiving mood as the boys put their bodies on the line, time-and-again, to thwart the hosts.

The best Rangers could muster was efforts from Danilo and Raskin that were blocked bravely by Iredale and Rocky respectively.

As Ibrox Stadium emptied in the closing stages the 900+ Hibs supports packed into the far corner loudly roared on their heroes as we comfortably saw out the seven minutes of time added on.
