Hibs defender Jordan Obita was delighted sign a new contract extension – keeping him at the Club until Summer 2026!
Jordan joined the Hibees ahead of the start of the 2023/24 campaign and has quickly cemented himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet.
To-date, the 30-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Hibees – scoring twice from left back.
After penning his contract extension – Jordan explained the main reasons behind signing the new deal.
He said: “I am really happy – I have been enjoying my football here, my family are over here as well and I have been enjoying everything so far.
“It was a really easy decision to make – when they came to me and said they would like to offer me a deal, I was really happy at first. I have only been here seven months or so, but I have played a lot of minutes and I am really proud that Club came to me and offered me an extension.”
Jordan’s move to Hibs in the Summer was a big step for the Englishman and his family – but the 30-year-old admits he has relished the change of scenery.
“It was a really big move for me at first. I have never moved away from my area in Reading that I was living in, so I took a big step to move up to Scotland.
“But I have settled in really well, my family have settled in, the players, the staff and everyone at the Club have done a lot for me and it has been perfect.
“Edinburgh is really nice – the town reminds me of where I am from in Oxford, there a lot of old castles and buildings. We’ve got beaches closeby, the town is modern, and the people are friendly here.”
Looking ahead to the rest of his time at Hibs, Obita detailed what he hopes to achieve during between now and Summer 2026.
“I am really enjoying my football here, I feel we have progressed well this season. For the rest of this season it is all about getting into those European spots.
“Next year, we’re desperate to get to the final of a cup – we felt we should’ve got that this year but unfortunately it didn’t happen. But overall the aim for me is to win something and do really well.”
