The game proved to be another productive exercise for Steve Kean's Development Squad, testing themselves against a strong, physical FC Halifax Town side.
Josh O'Connor and Robbie Hamilton scored the goals for the Hibees, but we were beaten on the day by the hosts who put out a strong side in preparation for their FA Trophy Final against Gateshead at Wembley this coming weekend.
The match provided a good opportunity for Rocky Bushiri to get some more important minutes under his belt as he works his way back to full fitness. Rocky played the best part of an hour at centre back alongside Darren McGregor and Kyle McClelland.
Dev Squad regulars Kanayo Megwa and Oscar MacIntyre started on either flank with Dylan Tait, Reuben McAllister, Allan Delferrière and Runar Hauge in midfield. Josh O'Connor led the line for Hibs with young goalkeeper Freddie Owens starting between the sticks.
As it happened...
The hosts got off to the perfect start with a goal inside the first 10 minutes. Matt Warburton opened the scoring with an impressive finish from the edge of the box, placing his effort into the bottom left hand corner.
The Hibees fought their way back into the game and responded well - equalising through Josh O'Connor. The Hibs forward - who recently signed a new deal with the Club - picked up the ball on the left-hand side before driving at the Halifax defence. Josh's shot took a deflection and found the back of the net to draw Hibs level.
The visitors began to pile the pressure on as the first half progressed with Freddie Owens making several important saves to deny Warburton, Millenic Alli and Rob Harker.
'The Shaymen' eventually retook the lead towards the end of the first half when Jesse Debrah tapped in from close range following a corner.
Halifax started the second 45 in similar fashion and added their third through Millenic Alli - his effort crashing in off the post leaving Owens no chance.
Angelo Cappello added a fourth on the hour mark with another smart finish - before Josh O'Connor forced a good save from the Town 'keeper after being played through one-on-one.
Murray Aiken, Ethan Laidlaw, Adam Khan and Robbie Hamilton all came off the bench in the second half with Hamilton pulling one back for the Hibees with five minutes to play.
It proved to only be a consolation goal however as the West Yorkshire side held on to claim the victory.
