That win moves Hibs three points clear of the Paisley side and within one point of fourth place going into the final four games of the campaign.

In truth this was a game of two halves with Hibs playing well in the first 45 and went two ahead thanks to goals from Élie Youan and Will Fish. However, St Mirren came out well in the second half and grabbed a goal back.

When speaking after the game, Johnson shared his thoughts with Hibs TV.

“I’m delighted with the win. The old heart wasn’t as strong as maybe it was at half-time because in the second half, they were good, and we made it difficult for ourselves. Our first half performance was outstanding; at times we need to be more clinical and kill teams off and then have more control.

“Second half just got a bit edgy; we missed a couple of opportunities and if the boys had taken those we might have settled. It was a poor goal to concede, but in the end when you know the score and watch the game, we were probably more in control than we think.

"Behind the ball, we had to make sure we had numbers and probably needed to use the ball better to play forward with more quality.

“This win gives us an opportunity to look up, forward, and chase that pack.”

Our Manager was particularly pleased with Hibs’ second goal and revealed a conversation he had with his two centre-halves before the game.

“It was really interesting, actually. We were talking before the game with Will (Fish) and Paul Hanlon. We were talking about John Terry, the way he attacks space, that he’s super aggressive, and then hopes the ball comes into his zone. He obviously scored a lot of goals doing that. I think they took that mentality into that particular action.

"Paul Hanlon flew across the front and just missed it, it was sort of just a hair’s width away, then Will Fish tucked it away at the far post. They both got in-front of their man, so I think they were really happy with that one - Will certainly deserved it.

“We have to be a threat from set plays and those two can get goals for us.”
