The 19-year-old was one of four Academy youngsters who got the call-up for the Hibees pre-season training camp in Marbella, with Rudi Molotnikov, Reuben McAllister and Jacob MacIntyre also spending the week in Spain with the First Team squad.

The youngsters have caught the eye of the Manager and coaching staff, with all four teenagers receiving plenty of minutes across both pre-season friendlies.

After coming off the bench against FC Europa, Kanayo was awarded a start at right back in our following match with AFC Bournemouth.

The Hibees fell to a 4-0 defeat on the day, however, Megwa was pleased with the opportunity to challenge himself in senior football.

“When I had the conversation with the Gaffer and he told me that I would be starting I was very happy. To start against a Premier League team means a lot to me and shows that I have been doing well in training and impressing the coaches.”

The 19-year-old played the best part of an hour coming up against several quality midfielders including Ryan Christie, Jaidon Anthony and Justin Kluivert - a challenge that the right-back relished.

“It was a real test for all of us, to see how we coped against a Premier League side,” Megwa continued.

“It was a good challenge; it was hard, but it was a great chance for me to learn. The tempo that they played was incredible, which meant we had to be switched on throughout the whole game.

“Everyone has been really helpful to me on the pitch and throughout the training camp. I have received a lot of good advice from the older guys and it has been a brilliant week overall for me.”
