The Hibees are back in action this weekend as we take on Aberdeen in the cinch Premiership on Saturday.
With only two points separating the sides in the league table, it is a massive game for both clubs in the race to finish inside the European places.
“It is a massive game – we know how big it is for both sides”, Newell told Hibs TV.
“We are desperate to win and we are looking forward to it.
“They (Aberdeen) have had a bad result in the Cup, which has highlighted their recent run of form. But, we know they have a lot of quality throughout their side.
"We had a bad result at Pittodrie last time out, so we know they have a lot of strength in their team.”
The last time the sides met at Easter Road, the Hibees ran out 3-1 winners back in September 2022. Newell is hopeful we can get our season back on track after a disappointing start to the new year.
“I watched the Edinburgh Derby; it is never acceptable to lose 3-0 against them. As professionals and players, we need to learn from our mistakes and look for the positives.
“We need to try and maintain our belief and work on those crucial moments in the game. As always, we have stayed positive this week, worked hard in training and we are ready for the game on Saturday.
“When we played Aberdeen at Easter Road, we played very positively. We got forward early on and we were on top from the start. With us being back at home this weekend, hopefully we can get the fans behind us and get a positive result.”
