Second-half strikes from Conor Wilkinson and Mika Biereth proved to be the difference between the teams as the hosts emerged victorious at Fir Park.

Adam Le Fondre pulled one back in stoppage time from the penalty spot, however, it proved to be a consolation goal with Motherwell claiming all three points.

Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Johnson shared his thoughts on the overall performance.

“It was a big effort on Thursday night, but we have to do more today. We have to compete on all fronts and the league is our bread and butter.

“Playing Thursday-Sunday at the moment potentially looks a bit to much for us at the moment as we weren’t able to get our top performances out of the lads today.

“I thought we lacked zip. We need to be sharper, brighter – sometimes we took the easy option today and we played the ball long up to Christian Doidge more than I would’ve liked today. Our game is about breaking lines and supporting the receiver, but we just didn’t show enough of that today.”

Johnson highlighted a lack of creativity as one of the key factors behind the defeat.

“We were in the game today, it was pretty even in the first half and there wasn’t much between the teams. At half time we brought on goal threats in Adam Le Fondre and Martin Boyle but we didn’t feed Martin anywhere near enough and we didn’t have that final quality ball into our forwards.

“We couldn’t get any momentum going, we did score but we didn’t have anywhere near enough shots on goal and we didn’t work their goalkeeper enough.

“Keeping clean sheets is so important for us but both goals we conceded were poor physically from our perspective and we lost out on our individual duels.”
