The Hibees fought back from a goal down to claim all three points in what was a well deserved victory at Easter Road.
Josh Campbell's second-half brace proved to be the difference between the sides, after Martin Boyle's penalty cancelled out Luis Duk's opener.
Two yellow cards in quick succession for Aberdeen defender Liam Scales at the end of the first half proved crucial and speaking after the match, Hanlon was full of praise for the way his teammates managed the game. He said:
"We knew going into the match it was a big one for us. Off the back of the Kilmarnock win, we were trying to build momentum and it has set us up nicely going into the international break.
“The response was great to going behind was great. Obviously, it was disappointing to lose the early goal but we didn’t let it affect us and we got back into the game and stayed on the front foot and tried to create as much we could.
“We kept going and the sending-off changed things. We managed to steamroller them in the end and it was an onslaught in the second half.
“When it goes to 10-men, sometimes people just expect it to be easy but it’s not always the case.
“The fans stuck with us today - they showed the patience in the stands that we were showing on the pitch and we got there in the end and picked up a big three points."
Josh Campbell struck twice in the second half, taking his goal tally to five for the season (all comps).

Since graduating from the Hibernian FC Academy, Campbell has made 47 appearances for the Club and Hanlon insists there is plenty more to come from the 22-year-old.
"I was saying to Josh after the game that he is definitely a goal threat. He should be aiming for at least 10 or 12 goals because he is capable of that.
“In football, your form can go up and down in your career throughout the course of your career but it is about how you respond. There is no doubt that Josh's response has been fantastic - especially this season.
"As a group, we have had a lot of new lads enter the squad and a new Manager as well, so naturally it will always take time to gel.
"But we are beginning to see the benefits of that now and we will only get better from this."
