THE LOWDOWN

The Hibees get their 2022/23 season underway this weekend as we host Clyde in the Premier Sports Cup Group Stage. The match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 9 July, 2022.

After a productive training camp in Portugal, Lee Johnson's side returns to home soil to begin their competitive campaign.

The boys will come into the match full of confidence after convincing wins against Hartlepool United and Burton Albion in pre-season. As well as the victories, the week provided an opportunity for the Manager to get a good look at his squad and embed his tactics and principles of play.

The competitive season begins in the Premier Sports Cup where we have been drawn in Group D alongside Greenock Morton, Falkirk, Clyde and Bonnyrigg Rose.

Having reached the final of the Premier Sports Cup last year, the Hibees will be hoping to go all the way under the new Manager.

THE OPPOSITION

At the end of their 2021/22 campaign, Clyde finished 8th in cinch League 1.

Managed by former Hibee, Danny Lennon, Clyde finished five points above the relegation play-off spots, in what was their third consecutive season in League 1.

Speaking to the Clyde FC official website, Lennon - who made 40 appearances in green and white between 1987-1994, said he was looking forward to returning to Easter Road.

"It’s an exciting group we’ve got and it’s a fantastic opener at a place I know very well; it will be a great occasion!

"They’ve got a new manager in Lee Johnson who will get a good welcome from the Hibs support but it’s an atmosphere and game our players will relish, and it’s one I’m excited about."

TEAM NEWS

Hibernian FC supporters could get their first glimpse at several of our new summer signings. David Marshall, Nohan Kenneh, Lewis Miller, Èlie Youan, Aiden McGeady and Jair Tavares all featured in Portugal and could be involved this weekend.

Unfortunately, Momodou Bojang is still waiting for the final part of his permit to come through and will be unavailable for selection.

Lee Johnson will also be without Paul Hanlon, Demetri Mitchell, Kyle Magennis and Kevin Nisbet who all miss out through injury.

HEAD TO HEAD

The last time we played Clyde in a competitive fixture was over 20 years ago - in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

Franck Sauzee and Mixu Paatelainen were both on the scoresheet as the Hibees ran out convincing 6-1 winners at Easter Road back in January 2001.
