After having witnessed his team’s exhilarating performance against Hamilton, as Meadowbank hosted its first home game of the SWPL 2022/23 season. The manager was full of praise for his side.
‘I don’t think I could have asked much more than the performance that we got. As the game progressed, we probably wanted to score more goals, but before the game we would have settled for that result.

With the first clean sheet of the season secured, Gibson also stressed the importance of another week on the training pitch.
‘Naturally people look at the goals we scored and the chances we created as the positives, but the positives were probably our defensive shape. We put a lot of emphasis on that this week. It was probably the part we didn’t have a chance to work on based on the problems we had getting players in, but I think you can already see a difference within the group.’
After an inspired performance from Crystal Thomas, as the forward grabbed her first 3 goals for the club in her first home appearance no less, manager Gibson ensured her efforts would not go unmentioned, as he bestowed further praise upon the American.
‘Crystal is a player that’s played at the top level we’re excited to see where she goes this season. When we get her match-sharp, she’s only going to get better, she’s that extra bit of quality we probably didn’t have since I’ve come in. The teams above us have always had those sorts of match winners. It looks like we’ve finally found that.’
