Boyle Back With A Bang

Where better place to start than with the return of our star man, Martin Boyle. The Australian international penned a three-year deal with the Club on Saturday and was straight into the squad for the Edinburgh Derby the following day.

After being unveiled to the Hibernian FC supporters pre-match, Boyler took his seat on the bench, watching from the sidelines. Just after the hour Mark, Lee Johnson made the move to bring Boyle on and the Hibees forward repaid his faith in the 95th minute.

Boyle’s return to Easter Road is a massive signing for the Hibees, and his attacking threat will no doubt bolster Lee Johnson’s new look-squad this season. During his first spell with the Club, Boyle managed 65 goals in 265 appearances, and he was quick to get his goalscoring account back up and running – slotting the ball past Craig Gordon in injury time sparking wild scenes around Easter Road.

Stats Watch: Nohan Kenneh

There were Edinburgh Derby initiations for several Hibees on Sunday, with David Marshall Marijan Čabraja, Èlie Youan and Nohan Kenneh all experiencing this first taste of the fixture.

All four made significant contributions throughout the afternoon on Sunday and adapted quickly to the speed of the Derby.

Kenneh’s performance stood out in particular and the defensive midfielder has made an impressive start to life at Hibs so far. Check out some of Nohan’s stats here!

Crucial Saves At Both Ends

There could have been a lot more goals in the Edinburgh Derby had both goalkeepers not been on top form.

Hearts ‘keeper Craig Gordon did well to keep out Èlie Youan’s first-half header with a reaction save from close range.

Marshall matched his Scotland former Scotland international team-mate making several crucial stops of his own. The best of which was a double save early in the first half, denying Lawrence Shankland with his feet before getting up quickly to block Barrie McKay’s effort with an excellent double save. Already you can tell Marshall’s presence in goal will make a big impact for the Hibees this season.

A New Trend? Hibees Leave It Late

Once again, the Hibees left it late to find the back-of-the net. Last week, Josh Campbell’s last-minute winner secured all three points at St Johnstone. This time, it was Martin Boyle who struck late in injury time to rescue a point in the Edinburgh Derby.

In the 2021/22 league season – Hibs only gained 2pts from scoring in the final five minutes of league matches.

This season, we have already gained extra 3pts from goals that came in the final five minutes.
