Our left-back has made an impressive 519 appearances for us, which means he sits fourth on our all-time appearance list.

Now 33 and the longest serving player at the club, Lewis is determined to help to club succeed by putting in top-notch performances in when he’s called upon.

“It’s something I never imagined I would do (make 519 appearances). I’m getting to the stage now, though, where I’m looking at quality rather than quantity.

“I don’t think I’ll sit down and reflect until I’ve hung up the boots and it’s all over.

“I still try and push myself every day in training, the boys seem to be getting fitter and training seems to be getting harder, I don’t know if that’s just my age! I still feel good, aches and pains have gone, but I feel as good as I ever have.”

This is his 18th season with Hibs and he’s seen a number of different changes at Easter Road and at HTC over the years.

“Player wise, staff wise, standard training facilities, the stadium, I don’t think there’s one bit that’s not changed!

“The fans have been with us the whole way, it’s been a long road for them as it has been for me.

“Ideally, I would love to play my whole career at Hibs, so as soon as I got an offer of another year, I was delighted. I still think I’ve got a lot to give on and off the pitch, hopefully I can hang in there a bit longer.

“Hibs means everything. Since 16 when I left school, it’s been my whole life and my family’s life as well. It’s a massive part, not just in my working career but it will be a massive for now and forever for me.”

Jack Ross described Lewis as the “perfect role model” for the younger players at the club, and one man who has really benefitted from the left-back’s time is Josh Doig.

“Anyone should pass advice on whose been here a long time,” smiled Lewis. “I know different things about the game that a young player doesn’t know, I try and help them as best as they can.”

Looking ahead to this weekend, Stevenson is putting his excitement of his new contract in a semi-final win against Rangers.

“It’s a pivotal time. Obviously, we have been struggling the last few games, maybe this little break has done us some good to come back fresh and hungry.

“It could really get our season going again, we can’t take it for granted.”
