Continuing Covid-19 restrictions meant the event had to be held virtually, but regular compere Grant Stott was back to oversee proceedings to bring some form of normality to the ceremony.
Supporters were also able to play their part, not only being able to watch the event on HibsPass and Hibs TV Pay Per View but also by voting on a range of categories.
So who were the big winners on the night?
For those who couldn’t make it, here’s all the details:
Players Player of the Year – Martin Boyle
Boyle took what the players themselves will no doubt see as the big one – the award voted on by them specifically.
The Aussie international has a big summer to look forward to, but he can look back on a tremendous season during which he scored 15 goals in 48 appearances.
The winger also terrorised defences throughout the campaign and played a pivotal part in ensuring Hibs finished third in the SPFL Premiership for the first time in 16 years.
Player of the Year – Martin Boyle
Need we add much more to the above?
The 28-year-old’s performances have been consistently great throughout the season, both in the league and cups, and Boyle’s infectious personality has also caught the imagination of the fans who have taken him to their hearts.
Fingers crossed he continues to strike fear into the hearts of defenders in a Hibs jersey for a long time to come.
Young Player of the Year – Josh Doig
Doig was effectively thrown into the deep end at the start of the season but he never looked back, going on to become one of Jack Ross’ first names on the team sheet.
The fact he only turned 19 earlier this month makes his performances all the more impressive, and he capped a superb first professional campaign by being named the Scottish Football Writers Association’s Young Player of the Year.
He was also shortlisted in the PFA Scotland Awards in the same category, and earned a call-up to Scot Gemmill’s Scotland Under-21 squad.
Women’s Player of the Year – Leah Eddie
Leah was a worthy winner of the award for her consistency as part of a Hibernian Women side going from strength to strength.
The 20-year-old defender has not only led from the back and added some crucial goals for her team this term, but the future for the Scotland international only looks bright with more caps no doubt on the horizon.
Goal of the Season – Alex Gogic v Kilmarnock, January 16, 2021
Head coach Jack Ross said afterwards that Gogic regularly gets “chased out” of shooting drills in training, so it was perhaps even more of a surprise when the midfielder popped up with a wonder strike to help see off Kilmarnock at Easter Road.
And what a hit it was. His persistence to try and win the ball back in the Killie penalty area paid off, and the ball broke to him at the edge of the area before he unleashed a powerful right-foot drive into the keeper’s top left-hand corner.
Moment of the Year – Supporters of Hibernian FC
There have been plenty of moments on the pitch that would have been worthy of this award, but to us there was only one fitting winner.
Hibs fans have backed the team through thick and thin, and this season posed unprecedented challenges with Covid-19 restrictions keeping supporters away from seeing their beloved side in person home and away.
However, more than 11,000 people supported the club by buying season tickets despite the uncertainty at the start of the 2020/21 campaign, and that support has continued throughout the season. The players and staff cannot thank you all enough for that backing, and we look forward to having you with us for 2021/22 season and beyond.
