From being the first British club to take part in European competition to July’s recent away day in Andorra – we’ve had 66-years and 99 games of European football to date. There have been eye-catching, headline-grabbing victories over Barcelona, Liverpool and Porto, a heroic comeback against Dino Zoff’s Napoli and epic tussles with Valencia and Roma. We’ve seen it all – quarter-finals, semi-finals, playoffs and penalty shootouts.

A historical night in West Germany as we sweep aside the German champions with Eddie Turnbull scoring two and making another in a 4-0 win.

With Tommy Younger, Lawrie Reilly and Gordon Smith delayed returning from international duty, Hugh Shaw gives some fringe players an opportunity to impress and one of them, John Buchanan, becomes the first British player to score a European goal on home soil.

Despite being the better side, our dreams of reaching the final end in front of a record crowd under floodlights of over 45,000. Léon Glovacki bags the only goal of the game.

Before playing Stade de Reims in April 1956, Hibs were handed a first-round walkover after being drawn with FC Lausanne-Sport. The Swiss side didn’t believe they were good enough to face us so withdrew to avoid suffering a heavy loss. They returned to Europe the following year to knock out Hearts.

Hibs twice lead by two goals only to leave Spain with a share of the spoils following an eight-goal thriller at the Camp Nou.

Pandemonium at Easter Road as the Barca players lose the plot as Bobby Kinloch’s late penalty sends us through on a famous night.

Johnny MacLeod’s goal eight minutes from time restores parity after a dramatic and ill-tempered encounter at Easter Road.

A Joe Baker double puts us ahead 5-3 on aggregate before the hosts rally at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. With the away goals rule not yet in place, a third match is needed to separate the teams.
