To mark the day of his funeral, Thursday 2 March 2023, club staff and our women’s team gathered around the centre circle at Easter Road for a minute’s silence to pause and remember Ron – a man who exuded enthusiasm, passion and positivity to everyone he spoke with.

At HTC, the Hibs First Team squad, coaching staff, and wider football department also took a moment to pay their respects before training.

Further Tributes

Hibs take on Livingston this weekend at the Tony Macaroni Arena and there will be further tributes ahead of kick-off for both clubs to pay their respects.

In the warm-ups ahead of the game, both teams will wear special warm-up t-shirts with “May the sunshine of Leith, shine on you always Ron” on the front and “RIP Ronald J Gordon August 1954 – February 2023” on the back.

During the game, the Hibees will mark Ron’s age with the number 68 on their shorts, a commemorative message will also be printed onto our black third shirt, and the players will don black armbands during the match.

A private memorial service will take place on Tuesday 7 March at Mansfield Traquair, starting at 3.30pm. The memorial will be private, due to the capacity of the venue, with the Gordon Family, Board of Directors, players, staff and invited guests all attending.

The Club will then pay a special tribute to celebrate Ron’s life ahead of kick-off at our next home game at Easter Road (Wednesday 8 March against Rangers).

Supporters can continue to send messages and pay their respects to Ron via our online book of condolence by clicking here.
